400-Year-Old Rare German Translation of Holy Quran Displayed for First Time in Makkah Museum

Makkah: A rare 400-year-old German translation of the Holy Quran has been put on public display for the first time at a museum in Makkah, marking a significant moment in Islamic historical exhibitions.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the manuscript was originally published in 1623 in the German city of Nuremberg. It has now been added to a museum collection that highlights the centuries-long history of the Holy Quran and its translations into various languages.

The rare copy is considered highly significant as it represents one of the earliest efforts by non-Arabic-speaking scholars, particularly in Europe, to understand the message of the Holy Quran.
The manuscript is part of the collection of the King Fahd National Library, which is dedicated to preserving national and scientific heritage. By making it accessible to researchers and visitors, the institution aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s cultural and intellectual presence globally.
Museum authorities stated that the exhibition is designed to enrich visitor experience and showcase historical treasures related to the Holy Quran, emphasizing its status as a universal source of guidance across centuries and cultures.
