Kuwait Revokes Citizenship of Over 100 Individuals Over Dual Nationality Violations

KUWAIT CITY — Authorities in Kuwait have revoked the citizenship of 120 individuals following a decision by the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship.

According to a report published in the official gazette, the move was taken under Article 11 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 concerning the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments. The provision states that any Kuwaiti citizen who voluntarily acquires the nationality of another country automatically forfeits Kuwaiti citizenship.

Reports indicate that the latest revocations are part of a stricter enforcement campaign against dual nationality, which is prohibited under Kuwaiti law. The government has been intensifying efforts to ensure compliance with citizenship regulations.

Earlier in January this year, two separate decrees published in the official gazette ordered the withdrawal of Kuwaiti citizenship from a total of 69 individuals.

Officials further stated that the recent cancellations are part of a broader government initiative based on various legal grounds, including allegations of fraud and matters related to national security.

Under Decree No. 242 of 2025, citizenship was revoked from 65 individuals and their dependents who had obtained nationality through them. Meanwhile, Decree No. 243 of 2025 approved the cancellation of citizenship for four individuals and their associated dependents.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing nationality laws and safeguarding national interests through continued legal action where necessary.
