70% Pakistanis Blame Polluting Vehicles for Smog Crisis: Survey
Islamabad:A recent survey by *Upsos Pakistan* has revealed that the majority of Pakistanis are aware of the causes behind the smog problem, with 70% of respondents attributing the crisis to smoke-emitting vehicles. The survey highlights growing concerns about air pollution and its impact on the environment and public health.
According to the findings, 63% of respondents identified industrial pollution as a major contributor to smog. Other significant causes cited included burning of garbage (37%), brick kilns (31%), and crop residue burning (30%). Only 11% of those surveyed blamed construction activities for worsening air quality.
When asked about the failure to control smog, 44% of participants pointed to a lack of public cooperation as the primary reason. Meanwhile, 37% blamed inefficiency in enforcing environmental laws, 16% cited the absence of laws related to air quality standards, 8% mentioned a lack of funding, and another 8% attributed the failure to the limited capacity of relevant institutions.
This survey sheds light on the widespread understanding of the issue among the public but also highlights significant challenges in addressing the growing problem of smog in Pakistan. The government and concerned authorities are under increasing pressure to take decisive action to tackle air pollution and improve air quality standards.
