Iran Reportedly Closes Strait of Hormuz Again, Reports of Firing on Two Commercial Vessels

Tehran: Iranian media reports claim that the Strait of Hormuz has once again been closed in response to what Tehran describes as a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.

According to reports, the Joint Military Command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it has tightened control over the strategic waterway, citing ongoing restrictions imposed by the United States.

International media sources reported that at least two commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday came under fire. The information was provided by three separate maritime security and shipping sources, although further details about the incident remain unclear.

Earlier tracking data indicated that a convoy of eight oil tankers was moving through the strait, marking the first major maritime movement in the area in weeks following heightened regional tensions.

Iran had previously announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for international commercial shipping under certain conditions but warned it could close the route again if the U.S. continued what it called a blockade, which Tehran considers a violation of a ceasefire understanding.

In a statement, Iranian media said the latest decision to restrict the strait was taken in response to continued U.S. actions against Iranian vessels. The IRGC accused the United States of engaging in what it described as “maritime piracy” under the pretext of a blockade.

The statement further claimed that control over the Strait of Hormuz has now returned to a stricter operational posture under Iranian armed forces supervision, and that the key global shipping route will remain under heightened monitoring.

Iranian authorities warned that the situation will continue until restrictions on Iranian maritime traffic are lifted, adding that freedom of navigation would remain suspended under current conditions.
