Armed Resistance Against the State Will Be Met With Lawful Response, Says Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti

Islamabad: Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, in his address at a Supreme Court Bar event, stated that those who raise arms against the state will be dealt with strictly under the law. He emphasized that presenting the ground realities of Balochistan before the legal fraternity was an honor for him, adding that certain facts cannot be disclosed in front of cameras.

Bugti recalled that when Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri returned from Afghanistan, the Pakistani flag was burned on the very first day, marking the start of a separatist narrative. He highlighted that after the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, insurgency intensified, pointing to incidents such as the attack on Justice Nawaz Marri and rocket attacks on Quetta from Koh-e-Murdar.

He further said that negotiations were once held with Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, who was later released on bail, and his son Balach Marri returned from England to contest the 2002 elections. However, Bugti noted that terrorism and militancy continued to inflict losses on the state as many returned to insurgent camps.

The CM made it clear that **those who choose violence to break the state will face a tough response**, while urging that forcing youth into militancy is a grave injustice. He stated that if the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had undertaken any development work, the government would enhance it, but violent separatism would not be tolerated.

Bugti stressed that while every citizen has a constitutional right to protest, blocking roads or endangering lives, such as preventing ambulances from reaching hospitals, is unjust. He condemned attacks on Punjabi families and lawyers in Balochistan as inhumane acts that harmed both society and the state.

He declared that lowering Pakistan’s national flag and replacing it with a separatist one is unacceptable, adding that no country in the world allows separatist movements on its streets. He also criticized glorifying dead militants as heroes, calling it misleading and dangerous.

On the role of media, Bugti said journalism in Balochistan is difficult but essential in presenting the province’s real picture. He urged the media to highlight the issues alongside solutions.

During his address, CM Bugti announced **Rs100 million (10 crore) for the Supreme Court Bar Association**, reiterating that his government is the first to actively address the issue of missing persons through legal reforms. He explained that clear amendments now ensure no one can be detained without due legal process, and detainees must undergo weekly medical checkups.

He pledged that by December, not a single school in Balochistan would remain closed.

Former SCBA president Ahsan Bhoon also spoke at the event, stressing that improving law and order in Balochistan must remain a priority. He urged the government to provide lawyers with security, welfare, and facilities on an urgent basis.
