‘People Keep Asking If I’m Alive’: Wasim Akram Responds Humorously to Death Hoax
Lahore: Legendary former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has responded with humor to false reports circulating on social media claiming that he had died.
In a video shared on Instagram, the former fast-bowling great dismissed the rumors in a light-hearted manner and urged people not to believe fake news.
“I hope everyone is doing well,” Akram said. “For the past few days, fake rumors about my death have been circulating on social media. If people still cannot recognize fake news in this modern age, then what chance do we 60-year-olds have?”
Joking about the flood of messages he had received, Akram added, “A 21-gun salute to all those who messaged me asking, ‘Are you alive?’ No, I’m making this video after my death.”
He also criticized those responsible for creating AI-generated and manipulated videos to spread the false claims, saying they should use their talent for something productive instead.
Using a Punjabi proverb, Akram remarked that simply loading books onto a donkey does not make it a scholar, adding that “even copying requires intelligence.”
Earlier, Akram’s wife, Shaniera Akram, also shared a video on social media showing the former cricketer working out at a gym to counter the false reports and AI-generated videos.
Alongside the clip, she wrote that the video was posted in response to the fake news circulating online, adding, “As you can see, he is in the gym and perfectly fine.”
Following Shaniera Akram’s post, fans expressed relief, and the videos confirmed that Wasim Akram is safe and in good health.
