Government Conspiracy to Suppress Public Representatives Through Political Revenge Will Fail; Asghar Achakzai’s Arrest Is a Murder of Justice: ANP

Keeping Him Detained Despite the Complainant's Sworn Statement Is Proof of Malice; Full Resistance on Legal and Political Fronts and Announcement of an Important Press Conference on Friday

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat Quetta): A joint meeting of the Awami National Party’s (ANP) provincial cabinet, parliamentary party, central office-bearers, National Lawyers Forum, Malgari Wakilan, Pashtun Students Federation and Quetta district was held under the chairmanship of acting provincial president Jamaluddin Rashia, in which the situation to date of the case against ANP provincial president Asghar Khan Achakzai being heard in a Chaman court was reviewed in detail.

Participants of the meeting, expressing deep concern over the case against Asghar Khan Achakzai and his arrest, said that Asghar Khan Achakzai is not merely a follower of Bacha Khan’s philosophy and the ANP’s provincial president, but a powerful voice in Balochistan for the achievement of the usurped rights of the Pashtun, Baloch and Hazara nations, authority over national resources, and the people’s democratic, constitutional and basic human rights. Despite the province’s unfavourable conditions, he continues a peaceful political and democratic struggle.

The meeting said that implicating Asghar Khan Achakzai in a baseless case and keeping him imprisoned is against merit and contrary to the requirements of law and justice. Instead of suppressing political leadership through malicious cases and legal actions, matters should be taken forward in accordance with the principles of the Constitution, law and justice.

Participants of the meeting expressed the resolve that the ANP will adopt all constitutional, legal, democratic and peaceful avenues of resistance for the defence of its provincial president and the party’s political and democratic struggle. The party leadership made clear that the struggle will continue for the protection of the people’s rights, authority over national resources and the democratic voice.

The meeting decided that an important press conference will be held on Friday, 30 October, at 3 pm at the Quetta Press Club, in which important announcements will be made regarding the situation of Asghar Khan Achakzai’s case, the party’s stance and the future course of action.

The meeting directed party workers to remain ready and prepared to ensure implementation of whatever schedule is given by the provincial organisation, and to continue their peaceful resistance, political struggle and democratic activities under party discipline.
