Balochistan Government Considers Early Summer Vacations Amid Heatwave Fears

QUETTA: Balochistan Education Department is considering announcing summer vacations for educational institutions in hot regions of the province due to rising temperatures and the threat of an upcoming heatwave.

According to government sources, the proposal is under review in light of the current weather conditions, continuous increase in temperatures, and forecasts predicting severe heat in the coming weeks.

Officials said the health and safety of students, teachers, and other staff members are being prioritized as authorities assess the situation.

A notification issued by the government stated that temperatures are steadily rising across various parts of the country, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department has also warned of possible heatwave conditions in the coming weeks.

Sources said a proposal is being considered to announce summer vacations in hot areas from May 15, 2026, to August 3, 2026, in order to protect students from heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke, dehydration, and other weather-related health risks.

If approved, the proposed schedule would apply to both public and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the affected areas.

The Balochistan government said the final decision regarding the vacations would be made after consultation with the relevant departments, including the education authorities and the meteorological department.

Officials added that a formal announcement will soon be issued through an official notification to ensure timely information for parents, students, and educational institutions.
