Pakistan’s Refinery Sector Emerges as Shield Against Potential Fuel Crisis

In Islamabad, Pakistan’s refinery sector has emerged as a crucial buffer against a potential fuel crisis, helping stabilize domestic supply amid rising global uncertainty in energy markets.
The sector continues to play a key role in maintaining the availability of petroleum products despite heightened tensions following reported U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global oil transit route.
Industry stakeholders stated that increased local production and timely government interventions have ensured uninterrupted supply of essential fuels across the country. However, they cautioned that sustaining this resilience will depend on immediate policy decisions.
The industry has also called for the urgent launch of a $6 billion refinery upgrade program, emphasizing that modernization is essential to strengthen long-term energy security and reduce reliance on imports.
