Meat Exporters Urge PM to Intervene Over Additional Export Charges

Lahore: Meat exporters in Pakistan have raised serious concerns over an additional ad-hoc charge of Rs50 per kilogram imposed on meat exports by Gerry’s dnata, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the issue.
According to the All Pakistan Meat Exporters and Processors Association, the new charge is expected to significantly increase export costs, potentially undermining the competitiveness of Pakistani meat in international markets.
Chairman Mian Abdul Hannan stated that exporters are already facing intense global competition, and any increase in logistics costs could adversely affect Pakistan’s market share. He appealed to the Ministry of Commerce to intervene in the matter.
He further explained that the additional charge amounts to approximately $180 per ton, which would substantially raise export expenses. He noted that relevant handling and service charges are already paid by airlines, and such extra costs should not be passed on to exporters.
Exporters have called on the federal government to take immediate action to withdraw the additional charges in order to safeguard Pakistan’s meat export sector and maintain its competitiveness in global markets.
