PPP Mulls No-Confidence Motion Against PM Shehbaz; Bilawal Bhutto Reportedly Angered by Maryam Nawaz’s Remarks

Islamabad: Tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have intensified as PPP leader and MNA Ali Qasim Gilani announced that the party may move a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Speaking to *V News*, Gilani said the decision will be discussed in the upcoming meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).

He revealed that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is “deeply upset” over recent statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. “The PML-N has crossed several red lines,” he said, adding that “the inflammatory remarks made by Punjab ministers about Aseefa Bhutto and the Sindh government are unacceptable.”

Gilani further stated that after the Punjab government withdrew the security detail of Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and his family, the PPP has decided to adopt a more “aggressive” political strategy.

On the possibility of joining the opposition benches, Gilani said his brother, Ali Haider Gilani, suggested to Bilawal Bhutto that PPP should sit with the opposition in Punjab. “Bilawal responded that if we move to the opposition, we will play that role both in the federal and provincial assemblies,” he added.

Bilawal Bhutto is expected to return to Pakistan in the coming days, after which the CEC meeting will be convened to make a final decision.

Commenting on PTI’s offer to support a no-confidence motion against the prime minister, Gilani said the proposal “does not seem serious at this stage.” He added, “Just yesterday, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said there will be political differences with PPP, but if a no-confidence motion is tabled, they will back it.”

“Imran Khan himself should make a clear statement if PTI truly intends to support the PPP,” Gilani said, emphasizing that the party will bring the matter before the CEC for a final decision.
