Mecca Defence Agreement Will Play Key Role in Promoting Regional Security and Stability: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the joint defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as being in the interests of all three countries, saying it will play an important role in promoting security and stability in the region.

In a statement issued following the signing of the agreement, the prime minister said the new phase of defence cooperation reflected the strong ties, mutual trust and shared commitment between the three brotherly countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said it was an honour for him to witness the signing of the important agreement, adding that cooperation based on mutual trust, brotherly relations and common interests between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye had continued to grow stronger over time.

He said enhanced cooperation in the defence sector would give a new direction to the partnership among the three countries.

Joint Vision Becomes Reality

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that due to the efforts and role of Field Marshal Asim Munir, the shared vision of the three countries had become a reality.

He expressed hope that the agreement would bring peace, stability, prosperity and development for the people of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The prime minister also prayed that the benefits of the agreement would not only serve the three countries but would become a source of الخير and benefit for all Muslim nations.

He said the changing regional situation had further increased the importance of mutual cooperation and coordinated strategies. According to him, the three countries standing together represented a positive development for peace and security in the region.

Attack on One to Be Considered an Attack on All

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have signed a joint defence agreement under which an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three.

The agreement was signed during a high-level meeting in Saudi Arabia attended by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The agreement marks a new phase in defence and strategic cooperation among the three countries and is expected to further strengthen their security partnership.
