Residents Urged to Vacate Dangerous Buildings Immediately, Says Sharjeel Memon

Karachi: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has urged citizens to immediately vacate dangerous buildings and fully cooperate with authorities, warning that no negligence will be tolerated during the monsoon season.
Speaking to the media, Memon stated that the Sindh government has completed all necessary preparations to ensure the safety of lives and property during the monsoon rains. All leaves for municipal staff have been cancelled, and personnel are required to be available around the clock.
Instructions have been issued to Deputy Commissioners and municipal chairmen to ensure timely drainage of rainwater. De-watering pumps have been made available, especially in low-lying areas, to prevent flooding.
Highlighting the situation in Karachi’s old city area, Memon revealed that 59 dangerous buildings have been identified, 10 of which have been declared national heritage sites. The Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) technical committee, comprising structural engineers, is actively conducting citywide surveys to detect structures that pose a risk to public safety.
So far, 41 highly dangerous buildings have been evacuated and sealed. In anticipation of heavy rains, a Rain Emergency Center has been set up at SBCA headquarters, operating 24/7.
Memon emphasized that the protection of human lives remains the government’s top priority. “During the monsoon season, any form of negligence will not be tolerated. Citizens must vacate unsafe buildings and cooperate with officials to prevent any major loss,” he added.
