Baloch Voice for Justice Expresses Concern Over Missing Baloch Activist Dilejan Baloch’s Disappearance
Quetta:The Baloch Voice for Justice has expressed deep concern over the continued disappearance of Dilejan Baloch, who has been missing for over six months. In a press release, the organization highlighted that Dilejan Baloch was forcibly disappeared on June 12, 2024, from his home in front of his elderly parents and other family members. Since then, there has been no information about his whereabouts, and he has not been presented before any court. His family remains in the dark about his current condition or location.
The statement emphasized that the state institutions have remained completely silent on his disappearance, which has only increased the distress and anxiety of his family. Despite ongoing efforts, the authorities have failed to provide any clarity on the matter.
The family of Dilejan Baloch has been persistently protesting for his recovery. Currently, a sit-in is ongoing in front of the DC Office in Awaran. Earlier, on October 3, 2024, the family held a four-day sit-in, after which the local administration assured them, on October 6, that Dilejan Baloch would be released within ten days. However, no action has been taken, and now, starting from November 18, the family has resumed their sit-in, blocking the Awaran-Karachi highway.
The press release also revealed that the local administration has been harassing the protestors. Shopkeepers have been prohibited from providing tents and other supplies for the protest, and internet and mobile networks in the area have been shut down. These actions are seen as attempts to suppress the protest and violate the fundamental rights of the people.
This is not the first time that state institutions have reneged on agreements. Since 1948, numerous promises have been made to address such disappearances but have not been fulfilled. A recent example includes the case of Zahid Baloch, who was forcibly disappeared from Quetta. Despite a signed agreement with the family and political leadership, in which the authorities committed to providing information or releasing Zahid Baloch within 15 days, the promises were not honored.
The statement appealed to human rights organizations, civil society, and the media to support the demands of the protestors in Awaran and the families of Dilejan Baloch, Dr. Abdul Hai Baloch, and Zahid Baloch. Immediate actions must be taken for the safe recovery of these individuals.
The Baloch Voice for Justice stressed that enforced disappearances not only violate basic human rights but also severely undermine public trust in the authorities. The organization called for urgent political and social reforms to address this grave issue. Failure to act swiftly, it warned, could result in increased public unrest and frustration, with potentially severe consequences.
