Suhail Warraich Offers Key Advice to Imran Khan in Jail: “Take a U-Turn for Stability”

Lahore:Veteran journalist Suhail Warraich has penned a thought-provoking column in *Daily Jang*, offering candid advice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail. Titled *”Musafir Banam Qaidi Number 804″* (The Traveler vs. Prisoner Number 804), Warraich urged Khan to adopt a more pragmatic political strategy for the country’s stability and his own political survival.
In a direct message to Khan, Warraich wrote, “Dear Prisoner, you often used to say that U-turns are a sign of good leadership. Now take a U-turn for the sake of national stability. Observe a silence till the next elections and focus all your energy on ensuring transparency in the electoral process. Such a deal would be acceptable to all.”
Warraich reminded readers that before the events of May 9, he and other journalists had personally advised Khan to reconcile with the establishment. However, the proposal was dismissed by all major players, including the ruling PML-N and even segments of the establishment. Despite being in jail for over two years, Khan still faces a political stalemate due to ongoing confrontations and resistance to compromise.
The columnist drew historical parallels with former leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who resisted reconciliation and faced dire consequences, including execution. In contrast, leaders like Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif eventually embraced reconciliation and returned to power through political compromise.
Warraich cautioned Khan that many of his so-called supporters, who advocate for revolution and protests, may actually be pushing him further into isolation, knowingly or unknowingly sabotaging his political future.
The real enemy is anyone or anything that stands in the way of your release. The real friend is one who helps you walk out of jail and return to political life. It’s time to distinguish between the two,” Warraich emphasized.
He concluded by urging Imran Khan to think realistically, avoid ideological rigidity, and prepare PTI for future governance, rather than continuing an unending confrontation. “History is knocking at your door. The decision is yours.
