Mahmood Khan Achakzai Stresses on Constitutional Supremacy and Political Unity in Pakistan

Karachi:The Chairman of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and Leader of the Movement for the Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, emphasized the critical importance of upholding the Constitution in Pakistan for the country’s stability and functioning. In a meeting with journalists at Karachi Press Club, he stated that until the supremacy of the Constitution is established, no institution can operate within its framework, and Parliament will not remain the true source of power. “The country cannot run effectively without the rule of law,” he asserted.
Referring to the controversial manner in which the February 8 elections were conducted, Achakzai criticized the blatant disregard for public opinion, saying that the election results were manipulated by removing the elected candidates and replacing them with others. He also condemned the widespread use of money in Senate elections, claiming that millions of rupees were used to buy votes.
Achakzai further pointed out that the political landscape in Pakistan had reached a point where those who sell their consciences and align with the wrongdoers are rewarded, while those who stand by their principles are persecuted. “The people of Pakistan, including children, are aware that the election was won by Imran Khan’s party, despite the criticism and weaknesses within the party itself,” he remarked. He strongly condemned the imprisonment of Imran Khan’s associates, the harassment of children, and the mistreatment of women, stating that silence in such times is a greater sin than anything else.
Achakzai reflected on the oath taken by parliamentarians and officials to defend the Constitution, urging that if anyone attempts to violate it, the people of Pakistan must rise up to protect it. He questioned whether the military, which is supposed to remain apolitical, had abided by its oath or intervened in politics.
In addition to these remarks, Achakzai spoke about the ongoing efforts to organize a conference in Islamabad with the aim of uniting various political, legal, and civil society stakeholders in support of constitutional supremacy. He stated that the Movement for the Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution was actively reaching out to political parties, journalists, the legal community, retired judges, and other sections of society to attend the upcoming conference and help build a united front for democracy and constitutional rights.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the rights of all communities in Pakistan, asserting that the country could only move forward as a strong nation if the resources and rights of all its ethnic groups are respected. Achakzai urged the people of Sindh to support the upcoming conference for the betterment of Pakistan and its future.
