Salaried Class Pays Rs2 Billion More Tax in July Despite Tax Relief

ISLAMABAD: Despite tax relief announced by the federal government in the budget for salaried individuals, income tax collection from the salaried class increased by Rs2 billion in July 2026 compared with the same month of the previous fiscal year.
According to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials, the government collected Rs44 billion in income tax from salaried individuals in July 2026.
The salaried class had paid Rs42 billion in income tax in July last year, meaning collections increased by Rs2 billion year-on-year. In July 2024, approximately Rs30 billion had been collected from salaried taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the government collected Rs15.5 billion in advance income tax on property transactions during the previous month.
Around 90,000 property transactions were recorded in July 2026, compared with 60,000 transactions in July 2025.
The figures indicate that property transactions increased by approximately 50% year-on-year.
