“We Disagreed With You, So You Turned Against Us,” Fazlur Rehman Tells Government

JUI-F Chief Warns Against Pushing Pakistan Towards Bloodshed; Alleges KP’s Terrorism Crisis Is Being Used as a Cover for Control of Mineral Resources

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has questioned the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning the government against pushing the country towards bloodshed.

Addressing the National Assembly, Fazlur Rehman said, “We are ready to die at your hands, but we are not ready to be condemned by history.”

He criticised the government’s response to political disagreements, saying that despite his party’s sacrifices, its efforts had been ridiculed and it had faced hostility for expressing a different opinion.

The JUI-F chief questioned the justification for imposing governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the grounds of terrorism and deteriorating law and order.

He argued that if this was the principle being followed, then governor’s rule should also be imposed in Balochistan, where, according to him, the situation was even worse.

Fazlur Rehman alleged that the terrorism narrative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was being used to conceal attempts to gain control of the province’s mineral resources. He added that discussions about these mineral reserves were now also emerging from the governor himself.
Reveals Details of Talks With Government
The JUI-F chief also disclosed details of his efforts to facilitate negotiations between the government and the opposition.

He said he had held talks with the government to help ensure the country was run more effectively. During those discussions, the prime minister had asked the opposition to postpone its long march.

According to Fazlur Rehman, the opposition responded positively to the request, with its demands including a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and arrangements for his medical treatment.

He said the prime minister had initially responded positively to these demands. However, at around 10:30am the following morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar informed him that the government had refused to accept them.

Fazlur Rehman said negotiations, mutual understanding and compromise were fundamental principles of politics and democracy, regretting that his party’s efforts and sacrifices had been mocked.
Calls for Dialogue and Respect
Emphasising the need for political reconciliation, Fazlur Rehman said the state should treat its citizens like a mother, demonstrating care and understanding rather than confrontation.

He maintained that he did not adopt a political position while uncertain and first sought complete clarity and satisfaction before making a decision.

He stressed that the doors of dialogue must remain open to safeguard democracy and warned that if political allies were not treated with respect, it would be unreasonable to expect the public to show respect in return.

Reflecting on the country’s political situation, the JUI-F chief said that when he compared the present circumstances with those of five years ago, the changes seemed almost like a dream.

He reiterated his warning against confrontation and urged political leaders to prioritise dialogue and mutual understanding to prevent further instability and bloodshed in the country.
