Islamabad:As Eid al-Adha draws closer, the markets are bustling with activity. While animal markets are crowded with buyers looking for sacrificial animals, vegetable markets are also filled with shoppers preparing for the festive feasts. Eid al-Adha is often referred to as the festival of delicacies, as families prepare a wide variety of delicious dishes, using essential ingredients such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and green chilies.
With rising crowds in the markets, concerns about inflation also echo, especially when it comes to the price of vegetables. To provide clarity, **V News** has compared the prices of key vegetables from May 20th to June 4th, 2025, to observe the price trend in the markets.
Here’s a breakdown of the price changes of essential vegetables in just two weeks:
* **Potatoes**: On May 20, potatoes were priced between **48 to 53 rupees per kg**. By June 4, the price increased to **57 rupees per kg**, reflecting a rise of **3 to 4 rupees** per kg over the span of 15 days.
* **Onions**: On May 20, onions were priced at **33 to 35 rupees per kg**, and by June 4, the price remained almost stable at **35 rupees per kg**. This indicates a marginal increase, but the price largely remained unchanged.
* **Tomatoes**: Both on May 20 and June 4, tomatoes were being sold for **33 to 38 rupees per kg**, showing no change in the price over the last two weeks.
* **Desi Garlic**: On June 4, the price of desi garlic was between **150 to 157 rupees per kg**, whereas on May 20, it ranged between **150 to 169 rupees per kg**. This marks a **12 rupees per kg decrease** over the 15-day period.
* **Chinese Garlic**: Chinese garlic witnessed a significant decrease. It was priced at **253 to 275 rupees per kg** on June 4, compared to **340 to 360 rupees per kg** on May 20. This is a **85 to 87 rupees per kg drop** in just two weeks.
* **Ginger**: The price of ginger was **577 rupees per kg** on May 20 and slightly rose to **580 rupees per kg** by June 4, indicating a marginal increase in price.
* **Green Chilies**: Green chilies saw a notable price drop. On June 4, they were priced between **85 to 93 rupees per kg**, compared to **103 rupees per kg** on May 20. This represents a decrease of **10 to 14 rupees** per kg.
* **Desi Lemons**: The price of desi lemons also dropped significantly, from **608 rupees per kg** on May 20 to **390 to 405 rupees per kg** on June 4, reflecting a decrease of **approximately 200 rupees** per kg.
With Eid just around the corner, the price fluctuations of these essential ingredients are likely to impact many households preparing for the festivities. Despite some price hikes, such as in potatoes and ginger, there are notable reductions in garlic, green chilies, and lemons, providing a bit of relief for consumers as they gear up for the celebration.
