State Bank of Pakistan to Announce Monetary Policy Today; Rate Hold Expected

Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will announce its latest monetary policy today, with the Monetary Policy Committee meeting scheduled at the SBP headquarters in Karachi.
According to market surveys, most analysts expect the central bank to keep the policy interest rate unchanged, while some predict a possible increase of 0.5 percent.
The committee will review key economic indicators along with the prevailing geopolitical situation before deciding the benchmark interest rate. Economists note that this monetary policy holds particular significance as it is the final review of the current fiscal year and follows closely after the federal budget.
At present, Pakistan’s policy rate stands at 11.5 percent, after a previous increase of one percent in the last monetary policy review.
Analysts suggest that recent developments, including Iran–US diplomatic progress, a decline in global oil prices, and a business-friendly federal budget, could influence the central bank’s decision. Market sentiment remains largely tilted toward a status quo in the policy rate, though a minority expects a modest hike.
