JUI-F Secretariat in Peshawar Faces Demolition Threat Over Alleged Encroachments

Ansar-ul-Islam Volunteers Take Over Security of Mufti Mahmood Centre; JUI-F Says It Has Not Received Any Official Notice

PESHAWAR: Tensions have escalated in Peshawar following reports that the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has issued a formal notice to the provincial headquarters of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Mufti Mahmood Centre, over alleged illegal constructions and encroachments.

JUI-F workers have taken control of security at the centre, vowing not to allow even an inch of the premises to be demolished.

According to reports, the notice issued by the PDA director general and Assistant Director of Building Control, Zohaib Hassan, states that a specific portion of Mufti Mahmood Centre falls within the 52-foot legal limit and right-of-way area, and is therefore classified as an encroachment.

The district administration and PDA officials have reportedly ordered the demolition of the disputed portion of the building over alleged violations of relevant rules and regulations. The notice was said to have been sent to the party leadership.

Following the reported move, volunteers of Ansar-ul-Islam, the JUI-F’s volunteer wing, along with party workers, gathered in large numbers at Mufti Mahmood Centre and took over its internal and external security arrangements.

The workers staged a strong protest and categorically declared that they would not allow any part of the centre to be demolished under any circumstances. They vowed to resist any action against the building.

Meanwhile, JUI-F spokesperson Abdul Jalil Jan rejected the reports regarding the notice, claiming that the party had not received any official communication from the administration.

He said the party had learned about the proposed action through the media. He also claimed that barriers and blocks had been placed on the road outside the centre by the administration itself in the name of security.

Abdul Jalil Jan urged the authorities to avoid any confrontation, maintaining that the party’s position was clear and lawful.

The situation remains tense as the reported demolition order has triggered a strong response from JUI-F workers, who have vowed to protect the provincial headquarters from any demolition action.
