Iran’s Supreme Leader Appoints Mohsen Rezaei as Representative to National Security Council

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Major General Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

Following the appointment, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian named Rezaei as the new secretary-general of the Supreme National Security Council, Iranian media reported.

In a decree, the Supreme Leader praised Rezaei’s extensive experience, describing him as one of the prominent figures with eight years of experience in the “Sacred Defense,” Iran’s term for the Iran-Iraq War.

Mojtaba Khamenei expressed confidence that Rezaei would successfully carry out the important responsibility and thanked Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, who had previously served as the Supreme Leader’s representative to the council.

Iranian presidential spokesman Mehdi Tabatabaei announced Rezaei’s appointment as secretary-general and said Zolghadr had stepped down from his current position to assume a new responsibility.

According to the report, Zolghadr had been appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in March 2026.
