Islamabad: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has highlighted the growing challenge of crystal meth and ice drug abuse in Pakistan, particularly among the elite class, where it is often perceived as a fashion statement. Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon emphasized that drug addiction poses a significant threat to society, stating, “Drugs are destroying our community.”
He pointed out that these substances have reached even small areas, making it a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. Memon acknowledged the assembly’s passage of narcotics legislation, crediting all political parties for their cooperation in addressing the crisis.
“Now it is our duty, as well as the media’s, to report on drug trafficking in our areas,” he said, urging collective action against drug dealers. He specifically mentioned a member who reported drug sales occurring beneath a hospital, committing to investigate the situation personally.
Memon also called on parents to remain vigilant regarding their children’s exposure to drugs, particularly in educational institutions, emphasizing that combating drug abuse is a shared responsibility for all.
