Balochistan Approves Sanitization Operation in Hanna Urak, Forms Negotiation Committee and Announces Compensation for Victims’ Families

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has approved a sanitization operation against militants in Hanna Urak and its surrounding areas, formed a high-level negotiation committee to engage with protesters, and announced that financial compensation for the families of those killed in the recent attack will begin within the next two days.
The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to review the law and order situation and discuss measures to restore peace in Hanna Urak.
The meeting approved the immediate launch of a sanitization operation targeting militants and their facilitators in the affected areas. Officials pledged indiscriminate action against those involved, stating that the operation would continue until its objectives were achieved.
Chief Minister Bugti reaffirmed that there would be no compromise on the writ of the state and said security forces would continue operations against terrorists with full determination.
To address public concerns, the provincial government constituted a high-level negotiation committee headed by Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove and Provincial Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar. The committee has been tasked with immediately engaging protesters, tribal elders, elected representatives, and other stakeholders to help restore normalcy through dialogue.
The meeting also decided to establish a joint security checkpoint in the troubled Hanna Urak area with immediate effect. The checkpoint will become operational from today, with all law enforcement agencies jointly performing security responsibilities.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Bugti said that those responsible for the deadly attack in Hanna Urak, along with their facilitators, would be brought to justice. He described terrorism as a shared challenge for both Balochistan and Pakistan, emphasizing the need for national unity and coordinated efforts to eliminate the threat.
He stressed that peaceful protest is the constitutional right of every citizen and assured that the government would take practical steps to address the legitimate concerns of demonstrators through dialogue.
Praising the people and tribal elders of Hanna Urak, Bugti said they had shown remarkable courage and patriotism by standing up to terrorists.
He concluded by reaffirming that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the government’s foremost responsibility and that all available resources would be utilized to establish lasting peace across the province.
