Brother Arrested in Karachi Honor Killing Case of Married Couple, Confesses to Double Murder
Karachi: Police in Karachi have arrested the brother of a woman who, along with her husband, was shot dead in Malir after marrying by choice, with investigators describing the case as an alleged honor killing linked to a financial dispute.
According to media reports, the couple was attacked near the Passport Office in Saudabad, Malir, where unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle, killing both husband and wife on the spot.
Police arrested the victim’s brother within hours of the incident. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to murdering his sister Nadia and her husband with the help of an accomplice.
In his statement to investigators, the accused claimed that Nadia had previously been engaged to a man identified as Abid Gopang, from whom the family had allegedly received Rs350,000 at the time of the engagement. However, Nadia later rejected the engagement, contracted a court marriage of her own choice, and left home.

The suspect stated that Abid Gopang demanded the return of the money and considered Nadia’s marriage a humiliation. According to the confession, when the family attempted to negotiate, Abid allegedly proposed that if the money could not be returned, Nadia should be killed before Eid-ul-Adha to restore his “honor.”
The accused told police that under pressure from Abid Gopang, he and his accomplice planned the attack and followed the couple before opening fire on them inside their car near the NADRA Passport Office in Malir.
Senior police officials, including the SSP Korangi and investigation authorities, said raids are underway to arrest Abid Gopang, who is being treated as the alleged mastermind and facilitator behind the killings.
Police are also investigating whether previous legal proceedings registered at Sachal Police Station and relief obtained under Section 63 of the Criminal Procedure Code may have been connected to the alleged conspiracy.
