Justice Tariq Jahangiri Alleges Misconduct by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Over Degree Case

Islamabad: Justice Tariq Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has filed a significant application in the court, revealing serious allegations against Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and seeking his recusal from the bench.

In his application, Justice Jahangiri accused Chief Justice Dogar of violating the judicial Code of Conduct and claimed that the degree case had been discussed with several individuals, including himself, under undue pressure.

Justice Jahangiri stated that the Chief Justice admitted to facing pressure to expedite the hearing of the degree case and, both directly and indirectly, suggested that he should submit a post-dated resignation. According to Jahangiri, the Chief Justice proposed that by resigning, the pressure on him would ease. He further argued that following these discussions, the Chief Justice was no longer fit to sit on the bench for the pending case.

Justice Jahangiri requested in his filing that Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar recuse himself from the bench, emphasizing that discussing pending cases and exerting pressure on a fellow judge constituted a breach of judicial conduct. He added that the Chief Justice should have adhered to the Code of Conduct instead of prioritizing personal relief through undue influence.

The judge also revealed that he has formally lodged a complaint against Chief Justice Dogar with the Supreme Judicial Council and asserted that the Chief Justice should excuse himself from the hearing of the degree case.

The application regarding the degree case was filed in the Islamabad High Court on the same day.
