Mahmood Khan Achakzai threatens boycott of Assembly, demands meeting and medical access for Imran Khan

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD (Kuwait News Desk) — Opposition leader in the National Assembly and chief of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mahmood Khan Achakzai strongly criticized the government during a speech in the National Assembly, demanding immediate access to imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan and proper medical treatment for him.

Addressing the Speaker during the parliamentary session, Achakzai said the opposition had earlier requested that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa Hospital alongside his family members and personal physicians due to concerns regarding his eye condition.

He warned that if the government failed to facilitate a meeting with Imran Khan and ensure his medical treatment under the supervision of his personal doctors, the opposition would neither participate in the budget session nor allow the Assembly to function smoothly.

According to reports, the Deputy Speaker switched off Achakzai’s microphone during his speech after tensions rose in the session.

Achakzai termed the issue a humanitarian matter and criticized restrictions placed on meetings with the former prime minister. He claimed that even dangerous criminals are usually allowed family visits and medical access, while Imran Khan continues to face strict limitations.

Separately, Achakzai held a meeting in the Opposition Chamber of the National Assembly with PTI lawyers and senior party leaders to discuss Imran Khan’s legal cases and medical concerns.

During the meeting, lawyers briefed him on multiple cases against the former premier, particularly the Al-Qadir Trust case and pending medical requests.

The meeting was attended by several prominent PTI figures and legal representatives, including Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, Barrister Gohar Khan, Ali Zafar, Latif Khosa and Babar Awan.
