Federal Government Treating Balochistan Like a Step-Mother, Says Senator Dinesh Kumar

ISLAMABAD: Senator Dinesh Kumar, head of the minority wing of the Balochistan Awami Party, has said that the federal government is treating Balochistan like a “step-mother,” adding that the recent increase in airfares by Pakistan International Airlines and private airlines is unjust and unacceptable.
Speaking to journalists from Balochistan during a luncheon in Islamabad, the senator said he has consistently raised Balochistan’s issues in the upper house of parliament, but unfortunately, these concerns are not being taken seriously.
He announced that a motion regarding the issue of increased airfare from Quetta would be submitted in the Senate on May 19, adding that he hopes the Senate chairman will summon relevant officials and seek explanations.
Dinesh Kumar said that the rising airfare from Quetta by Pakistan International Airlines and private airlines over the past year has severely affected the people of Balochistan and amounts to “injustice.”
He further stated that repeated appeals in both the National Assembly and Senate have not resulted in any action so far.
The senator stressed that the issues of Balochistan must be resolved through dialogue, warning that continued neglect could deepen public resentment.
He added that insecurity on national highways is making travel unsafe and urged the government to prioritize employment opportunities for youth in the province along with better border security measures.
Dinesh Kumar reiterated that he would continue raising the voice of Balochistan in parliament until meaningful action is taken.
