Deadlock Persists Between Balochistan Government and Opposition Over Madrassa Registration; Talks Continue

Quetta: Negotiations between the Balochistan government and the opposition over madrassa registration are ongoing, but a deadlock between the two sides remains unresolved.
A government delegation led by Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove held talks with opposition leaders. The delegation included Provincial Ministers Mir Ali Madad Jattak and Mir Barkat Rind. On the opposition side, key participants included JUI provincial chief Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey, Opposition Leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, PAC Chairman Asghar Tareen, MPA Syed Zafar Agha, and MNA Usman Badini.
According to sources, the government delegation requested the opposition to postpone protests until the return of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who is currently out of the province. Officials said the opposition’s concerns have been conveyed to the chief minister, who is expected to meet JUI lawmakers and leadership upon his return.
Meanwhile, sources within JUI stated that a bill related to madrassas has already been passed by the National Assembly, and the Prime Minister had promised to review it. They noted that while other provinces have remained silent on the matter, Balochistan was the first to initiate implementation.
JUI has demanded that the madrassa bill be included in the agenda of the provincial assembly session scheduled for May 5.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on madrassa registration and broader political issues, agreeing to continue dialogue in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove said that religious seminaries are strong institutions of Islam that produce scholars and حافظ (memorizers of the Quran), and historically have played a role in uniting the Muslim Ummah. He also described Maulana Abdul Wasey as a wise and respected political figure, adding that Balochistan represents a blend of diverse nations and religions.
Provincial Minister Mir Ali Madad Jattak emphasized the need to understand the government’s stance, stating that the government has always prioritized consultation with all political and religious stakeholders. He added that the delegation’s visit to opposition leaders reflects the government’s seriousness in resolving the issue through dialogue.
