Federal Government Launches 100MW Solar Power Project in Gilgit-Baltistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to launch a 100-megawatt solar energy project in Gilgit-Baltistan to improve electricity supply in the region.

A review meeting on the project was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where officials briefed him on the progress of the initiative.

According to the briefing, an 18MW solar power project is being developed for government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan and is expected to be completed by December 2026.

Additionally, work is underway on an 82MW solar project aimed at providing electricity to households in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu.

The Prime Minister directed authorities to accelerate work on the project, ensure its timely completion, and maintain transparency through independent third-party validation at all stages.

He also stated that the federal government will bear the full cost of the 100MW solar power project for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
