Moon Sighting Council Predicts Eid ul Adha Likely on May 27, 2026

Lahore: The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has forecast that Eid ul Adha in Pakistan is likely to be observed on May 27, 2026, subject to moon sighting conditions.
According to the council, if weather conditions remain clear, the moon of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri is expected to be visible on the evening of May 17, 2026. Consequently, the first day of Zil Hajj would fall on Monday, May 18.
Secretary General Khalid Ejaz Mufti stated that the new moon will be born at 1:01 AM (Pakistan time) on the night between May 16 and 17. By sunset on May 17, the moon’s age in most parts of Pakistan will exceed 18 hours, which is considered suitable for sighting.
He added that the time difference between sunset and moonset will be around 55 minutes in Karachi and approximately 63 minutes in Peshawar, increasing the chances of visibility to the naked eye in areas with clear skies.
However, the council noted that if cloudy conditions prevent moon sighting on May 17, the month of Zil Qadah will complete 30 days, and the first of Zil Hajj will then fall on Tuesday, May 19.
The council also expressed the possibility that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia may celebrate Eid ul Adha on the same day this year, May 27, 2026.
