Viral Claim About Erdogan and Pakistan’s Role in Israel Attack Debunked

Islamabad: A video circulating on social media claiming that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey would have attacked Israel if Pakistan had not mediated between the United States and Iran has been confirmed as false.

The clip, which went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on April 11, was widely shared with captions suggesting Pakistan played a mediating role in preventing a Turkish attack on Israel. The post gained millions of views and was further amplified across multiple platforms.

However, fact-checking shows that the video is taken from Erdogan’s speech at an international conference held in Istanbul on April 10 during the 9th session of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

A review of the full speech confirms that Erdogan made no reference to Pakistan or any alleged mediation involving the United States, Iran, or Israel. Instead, he focused on criticizing Israeli military actions in Lebanon, stating that civilians were targeted despite ceasefire announcements and condemning violations of humanitarian norms.

Turkey’s official Disinformation Countering Center also rejected the viral claim, clarifying that the president did not mention any plan to attack Israel nor any role attributed to Pakistan.

Turkish media outlets covering the event also did not report any such statements, further confirming that the circulating narrative is misleading and taken out of context.

Fact-checkers conclude that the viral video is a distortion of the original speech, with key context removed to create a false narrative.
