Trump Administration Seeks $87 Billion in Additional Defense Funding Amid Iran Military Tensions

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has requested nearly **$87 billion in additional funding from Congress** to support future military operations and defense requirements as military tensions with Iran continue to escalate.

Speaking before the **Senate Appropriations Committee**, U.S. Defense Secretary **Pete Hegseth** said that military operations related to Iran have already cost **$37.5 billion**, a figure that also includes projected expenses through **September 30**.

Hegseth stressed that current global security challenges require strengthening, not reducing, the U.S. defense budget. He warned that failure to approve the requested funding could leave the United States facing serious national security threats.

Following a classified security briefing, the defense secretary formally submitted the funding request to the Senate budget committee, emphasizing the Pentagon’s financial needs and the importance of maintaining a fully funded defense budget to address growing global risks.
