Ties With Iran Could Prove Costly, Trump Warns Countries Around the World

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has once again intensified pressure on Iran, warning countries that maintain economic ties with Tehran that they could face financial difficulties and other economic consequences if they continue cooperating with Iran.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the United States was imposing extensive economic pressure to further isolate Iran from the global economy. He called on US allies to join the campaign aimed at restricting Tehran’s financial activities.

The US president particularly urged efforts to stop the alleged illicit transportation of Iranian oil, cash transfers, financial transactions, vessel registrations and the use of front companies.

Trump warned that countries or entities providing financial, commercial or governmental facilities to Iran could also face the consequences of the US policy.

According to Trump, Iran had been given several opportunities to negotiate, but Tehran had not accepted them. Washington now intends to increase economic pressure on Iran in an effort to further restrict its access to international financial and trade networks.

Trump described the measures as part of an effort to weaken Iran’s economic and military capabilities. He said the objective was to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and to limit its military activities in the region.

However, according to the news agency, Trump did not specify what practical measures the United States would take against countries maintaining business or financial ties with Iran. He also did not name any specific country or entity.
