Iran Condemns Drone Attack on Kurdistan Prime Minister’s Office

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has condemned a drone attack targeting the office of the Prime Minister of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region, warning Kurdish people and authorities to remain alert to possible “false flag operations.”

In a statement on social media platform X, Araghchi described the attack as a “reckless act” and urged Iran’s friends in Kurdistan to beware of attempts to create divisions and discord among neighboring countries.

The Iranian foreign minister said Iran had supported the Kurdish people in the past against Saddam Hussein’s regime and ISIS, and expressed appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for helping maintain security along Iran’s border.

The statement came after the Kurdistan Regional Government said two drones had targeted the office of the region’s prime minister. Officials said there were no casualties in the attack.

The incident has, however, raised renewed concerns over the deteriorating security situation and tensions in the region. Iranian officials stopped short of directly blaming any party for the attack, instead highlighting the potential risk of “false flag” operations.
