Maryam Nawaz Announces Major Relief Package for Wheat Farmers in Punjab

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major relief package for wheat growers in Punjab, approving free provision of gunny bags worth Rs6 billion.

According to the official statement, the provincial government has directed the immediate start of wheat procurement at Rs3,500 per maund. Registered farmers will receive 10 bags per acre from designated purchase centres.

The government has also decided to prioritize purchases from farmers holding the Kisan Card, ensuring timely payments within 72 hours of procurement.

To oversee the process, strategic management committees have been established across the province. The chief minister also announced the launch of the “Work with Punjab Government” program, under which agriculture graduates and other individuals will be offered internship opportunities.

Officials briefed that under the Kisan Card initiative, agricultural loans worth Rs100 billion have already been disbursed, while registration of 900,000 farmers is ongoing. Under the Green Tractor Scheme, the target is to distribute 30,000 tractors, out of which 20,000 have already been provided.

The chief minister emphasized that farmers will not be allowed to suffer losses and said the government is committed to placing agricultural development on a sustainable footing.
