Mehmood Khan Achakzai Urges Formation of National Unity Government Amid Pakistan’s Crisis

Peshin: Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has called for a national unity government in Pakistan to address the country’s ongoing crises. Speaking at a public gathering, he issued a direct warning to both the establishment and the government, urging political parties to take responsibility for restoring democratic governance.

Achakzai highlighted the regional instability, citing foreign interventions in neighboring countries, and criticized the lack of support for Iran within the Muslim world. He proposed that all Pakistani political parties form a temporary national government for one to two years, establish an independent election commission under international supervision, and ensure free and fair elections where the people’s votes are fully respected.

He stressed that parliament should be the supreme source of power, courts must operate independently, and the military and state institutions must remain within their constitutional limits. Achakzai condemned corruption, the suppression of the poor, and the undermining of Pakistan’s resources by external forces, emphasizing that true governance can only be achieved through democratic accountability and the supremacy of the constitution.

Addressing the judiciary, he criticized the current system for failing the public and advocated for the revival of traditional local dispute-resolution systems (Jirgas) where necessary. Achakzai also expressed solidarity with former Prime Minister Imran Khan and demanded his release, asserting that the struggle against oppressive rulers is essential for Pakistan’s future.

He called on all political parties, including PPP, JI, and JUI-F, to unite and instruct the military to focus only on its constitutional role, leaving political leadership and resource management to civilian authorities. Achakzai concluded that the restoration of Pakistan’s constitution and rightful management of national resources are prerequisites for a stable, democratic, and sovereign Pakistan.
