Comprehensive Plan Launched to Clean and Beautify Quetta’s Major Drains, Protect Street Vendors’ Livelihoods; Work to Be Completed by March

**Quetta:** Under the leadership of **Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakil Qadir Khan**, a high-level meeting was held in Quetta to discuss the **cleaning of major drains, improvement of the city’s drainage system, and overall beautification of Quetta**. The meeting also focused on protecting the livelihoods of **street vendors and small business owners** during the ongoing works.

Officials informed the meeting that the provincial government has already **initiated phased and comprehensive cleaning of Quetta’s major drains**, which will later be covered with **durable concrete slabs**. The project aims not only to **make the city cleaner and more attractive** but also to **ensure a safe environment for small business operators** to continue their work without risk.

**Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Quetta, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Qambarani**, provided a detailed briefing on the **implementation stages**, including debris removal, slab installation, traffic management, pedestrian safety, and ensuring that business activities remain uninterrupted during the works.

**Secretary Irrigation, Suhail-ur-Rehman Baloch**, briefed participants on the cleaning and water flow improvement measures for **eight major drains in the city**, emphasizing that regular maintenance will help **prevent urban flooding** and **improve rainwater drainage**.

Chief Secretary Shakil Qadir Khan instructed that **the cleaning and covering of drains should be prioritized in central markets, streets, and major roads**, and that the slabs must be **safe for both vehicles and pedestrians**. He stressed that the entire operation should be **completed by the end of March** to provide **immediate and effective relief to citizens**.

A **special monitoring committee** has been formed to review progress every **15 days**. The Chief Secretary also appealed to citizens to **actively participate in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and beauty** and demonstrate responsible civic behavior.

The meeting was attended by **Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, Secretary Local Government Abdul Rauf Baloch, Commissioner Quetta Shahzaib Kakr, and other relevant officials**.
