Balochistan to Accelerate Work on Loong Dam to Boost Agricultural Growth

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has decided to **expedite work on the Loong Dam project** to enhance water conservation and promote sustainable agriculture across the province. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by **Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti**, where officials briefed him on project progress.

According to the briefing, the **Loong Dam** will be a milestone project for Balochistan, designed to **irrigate 54,000 acres of land** and **generate 4.8 megawatts of electricity**. The project will cost **Rs 2.15 billion** and will be implemented with the **support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)**.

Chief Minister Bugti said that the provincial government is adopting a **modern strategy for efficient water usage and storage** to strengthen the agricultural sector. He added that projects like **Loong Dam symbolize prosperity for farmers and economic stability for the province**.

He emphasized that the government’s focus is on **increasing usable water resources** and **enhancing agricultural productivity**, which will directly benefit farmers and the rural economy.

“The water resource projects will serve as a cornerstone for **environmental balance and rural economic resilience**,” Bugti stated, directing officials to ensure **timely completion and strict quality control** of the project.
