Peshawar High Court Seeks Governor’s Response on CM Sohail Afridi’s Oath Ceremony by Tomorrow

Peshawar: The **Peshawar High Court (PHC)** has sought a response from the **Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa** by **tomorrow** regarding the delay in the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Chief Minister **Sohail Afridi**.

The case was heard by **Chief Justice S.M. Atiq Shah**, who remarked that if the Governor is unwilling to administer the oath, the court must be informed of the reasons.

During the hearing, **PTI’s counsel Salman Akram Raja** argued that the **Constitution does not require the acceptance of a Chief Minister’s resignation** for the position to be vacated. He further informed the court that the **Speaker of the Assembly has already sent the summary to the Governor** for the oath administration.

Raja contended that the court has the authority to **nominate another person** to administer the oath if the Governor refuses to do so.

Chief Justice Atiq Shah clarified that the court was examining the petition **from an administrative perspective rather than a judicial one**, and directed the **Deputy Attorney General** to submit the Governor’s written response by tomorrow.

The court stated that if the Governor chooses not to administer the oath, **he must provide valid reasons** for his decision. The hearing was **adjourned until tomorrow**.
