High Flood Alert Issued in Punjab; Army Deployed in Jalalpur Pirwala for Rescue Operations

Lahore: Authorities have issued a high flood alert in Punjab after India shared fresh information on rising water levels in the Sutlej River. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that flood intensity remains severe at Harike and Ferozepur downstream, with local administrations directed to ensure protection of lives and property.
According to reports, the situation worsened in Jalalpur Pirwala, where the army has been called in to support rescue operations. The CPO Multan said that 14 army boats, 8 Rescue 1122 boats, and 5 private boats engaged by police are currently evacuating residents, making a total of 27 boats involved in relief efforts.
Earlier, PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that torrential rains had created emergency conditions in Gujrat for the past 24 hours, with machinery from multiple departments working to clear floodwater. He also reported a tragic incident in Jalalpur Pirwala where a boat capsized, killing a 70-year-old woman and four children.
Kathia noted that Rescue 1122 has so far carried out over 25,146 operations across Punjab, rescuing 10 people in the last 24 hours alone. The Punjab Chief Minister has taken notice of the Jalalpur tragedy, directed immediate burial arrangements, and announced financial assistance for the affected family within 24 hours.
