Moot Court Will Enhance Critical Thinking and Professional Skills Among Students: Balochistan High Court Chief Justice

QUETTA: The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has inaugurated a Moot Court at its School of Law, marking an important step towards promoting legal education, providing practical training to students and preparing talented legal professionals for the judicial sector in Balochistan.
Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Justice Kamran Khan Malakhail was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. The event was attended by BUITEMS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Hafeez, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mir Wais Kasi, the Registrar of the High Court, senior lawyer Ali Ahmed Kurd, senior judges, lawyers, university officials, students and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the ceremony, BUITEMS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Hafeez said the university’s School of Law was playing an important role in aligning legal education with contemporary requirements through quality education, modern research and advanced knowledge.
He said legal education would not remain confined to traditional teaching methods but would be integrated with scientific research, technology and practical skills. In this regard, emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and forensic sciences would be incorporated into legal education and research.
The initiative aims to enable students to understand complex legal issues, analyse scientific evidence and present effective legal arguments, he added.
Dr Hafeez said BUITEMS aimed to produce legal professionals who possessed a strong understanding of fundamental legal principles and were also proficient in modern technology, digital evidence, forensic analysis and research techniques.
He said this combination of legal knowledge and modern scientific approaches would better equip students to meet future legal challenges, contribute to the delivery of justice and promote the rule of law in society. The establishment of the Moot Court, he added, reflected this vision in practical terms.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Justice Kamran Khan Malakhail said a Moot Court provided law students with an opportunity to practise judicial proceedings through simulated cases, conduct legal research, prepare cases, study relevant laws and judicial precedents, develop arguments and present their positions effectively before a court.
He said such practical training helped develop confidence, critical thinking, professional ethics and the ability to analyse legal issues — all essential qualities for a successful lawyer.
The chief justice assured continued support for the BUITEMS School of Law in terms of technical assistance and maintaining academic standards. He stressed the need to improve the quality of legal education in Balochistan and prepare competent, talented professionals equipped with modern knowledge for the judicial system.
BUITEMS has played a significant role in promoting higher education in Balochistan, introducing modern educational practices and creating professional opportunities for young people.
The inauguration of the Moot Court at the university’s School of Law is expected to strengthen practical legal training and connect academic learning with modern research, helping students prepare for professional responsibilities in the legal and judicial fields.
