Asad Qaiser Reveals Dates of Nawaz Sharif’s Medical Treatment During Detention

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has expressed disappointment over statements by Federal Ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar and Khawaja Asif, saying that PTI founder Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital is his constitutional and legal right.

In a post on social media platform X, Asad Qaiser criticised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and cited details of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s hospitalisation and medical treatment while he was in custody.

Asad Qaiser said Nawaz Sharif received treatment at several hospitals and provided the following dates:

January 22, 2019: Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore — 1 day
February 2 to 7, 2019: Services Hospital, Lahore — 5 days
February 15 to 25, 2019: Jinnah Hospital, Lahore — 10 days
March 26 to May 7, 2019: Jati Umra, his private residence in Lahore — 42 days
October 21 to November 6, 2019: Services Hospital, Lahore — 16 days
November 6 to 19, 2019: Jati Umra, where ICU facilities were reportedly available — 13 days

He further said that on November 19, 2019, the superior judiciary granted Nawaz Sharif permission to travel abroad for four weeks for medical treatment, after which he returned to Pakistan nearly four years later.

Asad Qaiser questioned whether Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had forgotten how many times Nawaz Sharif had sought medical treatment and how many times he was allowed treatment during his detention.

He alleged that the PML-N had repeatedly confronted the superior judiciary and criticised its decisions, whereas, according to him, PTI had always respected judicial verdicts and raised the issue of human rights.

The former National Assembly speaker also claimed that during the PTI government, no new cases were registered against opposition leaders and that the cases against them were from earlier periods.

Asad Qaiser urged the government to avoid politicising Imran Khan’s health and instead support his transfer to a hospital for medical treatment.
