Punjab Deploys Drone Technology for Flood Victim Rescue Operations

Lahore: For the first time in the country’s history, drone technology has been successfully used to identify and rescue flood victims in Punjab. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, thermal imaging drones were deployed across multiple flood-hit districts to locate stranded individuals and livestock in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
In Jhang, near Semi Pull Bypass and Sargodha Road, drones traced five trapped individuals along with their livestock. Rescue teams, guided by the drone’s live surveillance feed, quickly reached the site and successfully shifted them to safety.
Similarly, in the river belts of Chishtian and Bahawalnagar, thermal imaging drones were used to spot flood-affected residents and animals. The technology enabled quick tracing and rescue, supported by rescue boats operating in submerged regions.
According to rescue officials, the drones not only provided real-time surveillance but also significantly reduced response time in high-risk areas, making the rescue operations more effective.
