Civil Hospital Acid Attack: Young Doctors Announce Indefinite Closure of OPDs, Say Complaints Had Previously Been Filed Against Suspect

Quetta (Qudrat Daily) – The Young Doctors Action Committee (YDAC) Balochistan has strongly condemned the acid attack on Lady Doctor Mah Noor at Civil Hospital Quetta and demanded an impartial investigation into the incident, along with improved security measures for doctors and healthcare workers across the province.

Addressing a press conference in Quetta, YDAC Balochistan Chairman Dr. Tahir Musa Khel denounced the attack and described it as a deeply alarming incident for the medical community. He stated that prior to the acid attack on Dr. Mah Noor, another female doctor in the Gynecology Department had reportedly been subjected to harassment and physical mistreatment, including having her hair pulled.

Dr. Musa Khel said that doctors serving in remote areas of Balochistan face significant challenges and security threats, adding that several incidents involving medical staff have occurred in hospitals but have not been widely reported.

He urged the government to develop a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of doctors and healthcare workers in all public hospitals across the province. While acknowledging that the arrest of those involved in the attack was crucial, he said the killing of the suspect had raised a number of questions and concerns that required transparent investigation.

The YDAC chairman also demanded that Dr. Mah Noor be provided with advanced and high-quality medical treatment, while injured medical technician Abdul Razzaq should receive treatment at the government’s expense.

He called on authorities to conduct an independent and transparent inquiry into the Civil Hospital incident and take strict legal action against all those found responsible.

Dr. Tahir Musa Khel announced that, until the doctors’ demands are met and security conditions improve, outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective medical services in all government hospitals across Balochistan will remain closed indefinitely starting from tomorrow.
