Billions Spent on Beautifying Quetta’s Airport Road While Nearby Neighborhoods Lack Basic Facilities

Quetta: The uneven distribution of development funds and misplaced priorities in Quetta have sparked outrage among residents. While billions of rupees are being spent on the “beautification” of **Airport Road** under the **CM Quetta Development Project**, adjacent neighborhoods remain deprived of basic civic amenities such as clean water, sanitation, and proper roads.

According to reports, the government is constructing **walls and decorative gates** along Airport Road, even at the entrances of private housing schemes, as part of the beautification drive. Meanwhile, nearby areas — including **Alamo Chowk, Killi Alam Khan, and surrounding streets** — are in a state of disrepair.

Residents complain that **broken sewage lines**, stagnant wastewater, and **crumbling roads** have made daily life miserable. Despite years of promises, no rehabilitation work or drainage improvement has been carried out.

Local representatives have harshly criticized the government’s approach, saying that instead of spending billions on cosmetic projects, funds should be diverted toward **essential infrastructure**, including **sewerage, potable water, and road repairs**.

Citizens have also questioned why new beautification schemes are launched on Airport Road **every few months**, only to deteriorate shortly afterward.

Public and civic groups have demanded that the **Balochistan government and anti-corruption authorities** launch an immediate **inquiry into repeated high-cost projects** on Airport Road. They called for **transparent investigations** to identify and hold accountable those responsible for turning the **CM Quetta Development Project** into what critics are calling a potential **“white elephant.”**
