7 Dead, Over 100 Houses Destroyed in Balochistan Floods; Rescue Operations Underway

Quetta: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has released an updated report on the losses caused by recent heavy rains and floods across the province. According to the report, seven people have died and four others were injured in various districts. The fatalities include two each in Turbat and Loralai, and one each in Kohlu, Jaffarabad, and Kech. Injured individuals include two in Loralai, and one each in Harnai and Kohlu.
Flood Damage:
In Kech district’s Bala Nari area, a breach in the protective embankment of the Nari River caused severe destruction in Ghot Taj Habib and Ghot Balochani. Over 100 houses were destroyed, more than 400 acres of agricultural land submerged, and over 50 livestock swept away. Harnai also reported damage to nearly 60 houses and losses of livestock, with authorities still assessing the full extent of damage.
Roads and Connectivity:
Floodwaters have disrupted major roads, including the temporary diversion connecting Jhilmagsi to Gandawah via Notal, halting all traffic. Harnai is cut off from Sanjawi and Quetta, and several internal roads are blocked. Flash floods are currently affecting Qila Abdullah, Chaman, and Harnai, while markets and residential areas in Qila Abdullah—including Gulistan, Habibzai, and Toba Achakzai—have been severely affected. Rivers such as Machka and Arambi continue to overflow.
Rescue and Relief Operations:
In Qila Abdullah’s Gulistan area, a mini-coach carrying 15 women and children became trapped in floodwaters. Under the personal supervision of the Deputy Commissioner and DPO, PDMA deployed heavy machinery to safely rescue all passengers and retrieve the vehicle. Two additional vehicles were rescued from Machka River. In Harnai, PDMA has provided relief supplies to affected families, while heavy machinery has been dispatched to repair the breach in Kech’s protective embankment.
PDMA Balochistan Director General Jahanzeb Ghorzai has ordered the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) to remain fully operational 24/7. All rescue teams and relief sections across districts remain on high alert to respond to any emergencies.
