Caribbean Islands Offer Citizenship for Investment: Passport Access to 150+ Countries Without Visa

The five Eastern Caribbean nations — Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia — have become a magnet for global investors, not just for their scenic beauty but also for offering second citizenship and visa-free travel in exchange for investment.
Under these Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs, individuals who invest at least $200,000 (approximately PKR 56 million) can acquire citizenship and a passport that allows visa-free access to more than 150 countries, including the UK and the Schengen Zone of Europe.
According to UK-based firm Henley & Partners, applications for Caribbean citizenship rose by 12% in 2024–2025 compared to the previous year. The largest number of applicants are reportedly from the United States, driven by increasing political and social uncertainty at home.
Dominik Wolek, a representative of the firm, stated, “The Caribbean passport has become a backup plan for many. Some seek it for personal security, others for political neutrality or ease of international travel.”
These citizenship schemes often don’t require applicants to live in the country long-term. In some cases, individuals can even qualify by contributing to a National Development Fund instead of direct real estate or business investment.
However, these programs have drawn criticism at the international level. Both the European Union and the United States have raised concerns that the lack of strict oversight may allow financial criminals or tax evaders to misuse the schemes. The EU has even hinted at potentially revoking visa-free access for certain countries offering such programs.
In response, the Prime Ministers of the participating Caribbean nations have defended their CBI initiatives, emphasizing transparency and the role of these programs in supporting their economies. To address international concerns, a new regulatory authority has also been established to ensure proper monitoring and compliance.
