Watching Short Videos on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Can Harm the Brain: Study

A new study has revealed that frequently watching short videos on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube can have a detrimental effect on the brain.
The research, published in the journal NeuroImage, suggests that people who enjoy watching these short videos may experience various brain changes. The study found that the addiction to short-form content can alter brain regions responsible for decision-making and financial sensitivity.
According to the study, the addiction to short videos is similar to the addiction to drugs or gambling, where individuals prefer immediate gratification or rewards over long-term consequences.
The researchers warned that aimless scrolling and watching short videos can lead to brain changes that impair decision-making. They highlighted that such individuals are less capable of assessing risks.
The study also emphasized that the addiction to short videos is a global health threat. In China alone, people spend an average of 151 minutes daily watching these videos, and 95.5% of internet users enjoy watching them.
Researchers noted that this addiction not only impacts focus, sleep, and brain health, but it also increases the risk of depression.
