Technical Talks Begin in Switzerland to Implement Islamabad MoU on Iran–US Ceasefire
BÜRGENSTOCK:The first round of technical-level talks aimed at implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on the Iran–US ceasefire has begun in Switzerland.
According to details, the initial session in **Bürgenstock** includes both bilateral and trilateral discussions. A second session is scheduled for the afternoon, with representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar participating in the negotiations.
The **Pakistan** Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said that Islamabad will continue to play its role in ensuring the implementation of agreements reached between the two sides. On the sidelines of the Swiss talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold bilateral meetings with delegations from Iran, Qatar, Switzerland, and the United States, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.
The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan’s facilitation role in the Gulf crisis reflects a principled, balanced, and constructive diplomatic approach. He noted that Pakistan hosted early rounds of Iran–US discussions and maintained continuous diplomatic engagement, which eventually contributed to the Islamabad MoU.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry welcomed the Pakistani delegation and noted that Pakistan’s team moved from Zurich to Bürgenstock to participate in the negotiations. It also confirmed Pakistan’s role as a facilitator in the ongoing Iran–US dialogue.
Meanwhile, a high-level Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker **Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf** is present in Switzerland for talks with the United States. The delegation includes Foreign Minister **Abbas Araghchi** and other senior officials.
US Vice President **J.D. Vance** has also arrived in Switzerland for the negotiations and is expected to stay for one to two days. He said the purpose of the visit is to make progress on the nuclear issue and advance discussions on a possible Lebanon ceasefire.
Former US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner are already present in Switzerland, while Qatari representatives are also part of the talks.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Interior Minister **Mohsin Naqvi** visited Tehran, where he held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Discussions focused on regional tensions and diplomatic coordination ahead of the Swiss talks.
Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized its role in promoting dialogue and reducing regional tensions through sustained diplomatic engagement and facilitation efforts.
